Jobs for the boys

My thoughts today have been focussed on getting a job. I went to visit an old boss who has now changed companies. I am seriously rethinking the overtures that his new company (it is Corporate A for those of you who remember...) are making as the one huge thing to be said for them is that they will give me a job that suits my rather unusual portfolio of skills and interests.

Although maybe there are other interests (if not skills) that could be enflamed in other jobs. I'm also thinking of becoming a bus driver...

how could you possibly write your bestseller if you are employed again though! (well done on the mooselet victory!)

Lyndyloo, hope your mum has a well earned rest and a speedy recovery.
Keith, May all your holes heel up... well not all of them....but you get my drift.
Hazel, I have a bicycle in the garage that you could borrow. It has a lovely basket on the front and a nice bell to tinkle anytime someone gets in your way. Plus, some rather handy pegs for giving the odd backy. Let me know if it would be useful!
Gaby, so many times i wondered where you were, and there you are. Huraagh.

How Smart is Your Right Foot?

This is so funny that it will boggle your mind. And you will keep
trying at least 50 more times to see if you can outsmart your foot, but you can't.

1. While sitting at your desk, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles.

2. Now, while doing this, draw the number "6" in the air with your
right hand.

Your foot will change direction.

I told you so ......And there's nothing you can do about it
Make sure you pass this on to your friends...they won't be able to believe it either!!

Oh, DD, that's SO OLD and SO GOOD! It's better done at about 5am on a Sunday morning...preferably on someone who'll keep doing it and doing it because they are convinced that they are the only person in the world that can outsmart it. It is true. It's the law.

anna, an bicycle sounds fab. I do possess such a velocipede, but due to the nature of the hills in my locality, I don't use it as regularly as I'd like. However, I do like the sound of a basket, bell and pegs, so I may yet be in touch.

DD - how am I supposed to sit through a serious meeting with my boss and his boss without lapsing into foot twirling mode at least once and thus making a compelte exhibition of myself?

The July monsoon has just struck in Bath. Hope the weather in your parts of the world is better than this. It's got really dark with rain going sideways past the window. Oh and now its stopped.

Bus Drivers now there's a thing - hubby is one of those and has been for nearly a decade! Not a German one just a plain ole English one ....... wouldn't recommend it to anyone in Blighty for all the tea in China. About 4 years ago a delightful youf boarded his bus with an axe to persuade hubby to relieve himself of his takings. Hubby purposely jolted the bus forward and the axe wielding youf fell off. Hubby closes door and goes to drive off with said youf digging the axe into the bodywork as the bus moves off. The moral of this story is ............. Corporate A is probably a much safer option even though the occasional views may not be as tasty!
Oh, and the Police told hubby to stay where he was so they could come and help him!!! God's honest truth! Needless to say he didn't. And yes they knew who the youf was and hubby's near miss was a crime taken into consideration with a mountain of others when he appeared in court and got a slapped wrist or some such similar thing.

Hazel - Littlest man was despatched to Boys Brigade, I prepared the feather duster and the result was 2 clean bedrooms and a third on its way to being cleaned!!! Now its the Summer break for BB so have told hubby - must try harder in September! Either that or I will boil eggs!

Sun is shining here for a change, however dark clouds are threatening on the horizon so I suppose we will have rain in the not too distant future. We had huge thunderstorms last night.

Helloooo, I'm back to the old grindstone! I've only just come back to work today - seems like a really long break. Last night I felt exactly the way I used to when going back to school after the summer break. I sooo wanted a note from my mum saying I had a sore tummy and would need another couple of days off!

Our home computer is kaput for reasons beyond my understanding, so I have been completely cut off from all of you lovely people and I have to confess, you have been in my thoughts in between enjoying the time off work!

Well, of course, the weather was just utterly awful. All our plans for sightseeing and walking were scuppered. Also, Mr S's leg continues to be a big worry. Apparently he has a hole in the leg and it will take "some time" before it heals. Poor wee soul, and he doesn't even complain. I'd be complaining night and day.

Hope everyone is o.k. I have managed to read quite a lot (my boss has been out all morning!):

Keith - hope you are feeling better. You sound very upbeat and you're quite an inspiration.

Moose - well done on taking on City Hall! It is just SO important that the mooselets attend the same school.

Lyndyloo - I am thinking of your mum - and there is no doubt that the power of positive thinking goes a long way. Also, how lovely for your mum & dad to reach their 50th anniversary - what an achievement!

Hazel - I'm sorry, I just have to be nice to you. You just do not deserve all the sh*t that you get thrown at you. However, I am so glad you are o.k. - things could have been so much worse. But I'm only too aware of the worry when it comes to money, so I hope everything works out for you.

Amanda - thank you for remembering me yesterday! I'm so glad your wee tootsie had a wonderful birthday and that your slightly bigger tootsie enjoyed the day too!

To everyone else, hope today finds you o.k, if a little damp! (Yes, I see there's been a lot of activity in NC1!)

Be back soon.

May I say that the language on the blog has definitely deteriorated over the last two weeks! Hazel, just because you have fallen head over heels for some young whippersnapper doesn't mean you can forget decorum - at all times!

Speaking of falling head over heels, etc - I read an article on Sunday night about the young boy in the band Keane and his problem with drugs and how hard he is fighting to stay off them. I fell asleep and found myself dreaming of touring with Keane (naturally being the lead singer's love interest) and let's just say, if I elaborate, I will be in NC1 for ever, with Jollygit!

Hazel, any words of wisdom for me?

Good afternoon all,

Just to report that all is well with my wounds. The nurse was very happy with them and me. Thanks for al of the kind remarks and apologies for not getting back to you all sooner.

Hazel, so your car has finally gone to meat its maker! Very sad but at least you are alright. I hope the fella who hit you is not too traumatised. ;-) Thanks for the Chinese, can I have a number 69 and another spring role with mine? :-)

Lyndyloo, the very best wishes to your mum.

Moose, I guess back to work had to happen sometime. Good luck in finding the right position to meet all of your needs. I know it is an old saying but I was reminded of it very recently and that is “follow your heart”. I still think it is good advice. ;-) Also thanks to your team QPR for the summer signing of Mark Bircham to Yeovil. You may be please to hear I am part of the consortium that will sponsor his kit during his time at the club. I do hope he is a success with us.

P.S. An Essex (other counties are available) girl goes to the council to register for child benefit.

"How many children?" asks the council worker?

"10" replies the Essex girl.

"10?" says the council worker. "What are their names?"

"Wayne, Wayne, Wayne, Wayne, Wayne, Wayne, Wayne, Wayne, Wayne and Wayne."

"Doesn't that get confusing?"

"Naah," says the Essex girl. "It's great because if they are out playing in the street I just have to shout WAAYNE, YER DINNER'S READY or WAAYNE GO TO BED NOW and they all do it."

"What if you want to speak to one individually?" asks the perturbed Council worker.

"That's easy," says the girl. "I just use their surnames."

Just checkin' in to see what is going on over here.

I've just squizzed through the past couple of days posts and, Hazel, I'm sorry to read of your strife after the prang. I hope everything resolves itself. I'm not sure what is going on Friday now, I will try and find out what the ticket situation is. I assumed all along that you could just turn up, but that may not be the case. I am on a 'chip-fitting' exercise tomorrow, so it may only be Thursday before we suss this out. I'd hate to blow you out again...

Mrs MfR and I are dining at Chez CLP (The M, not his house) on Thursday, I'll let you know what colour the 'Magnum' Ferrari is if he turns up later on.

Chrissie. I hope you had a fab holiday (apart from the weather), coming back after a couple of weeks away is a real shock to the system, in fact, I haven't quite got over the shock yet, how many weeks later?

Anyway, a chirpy howdy do to Keith, Moose, Anna, DD, Amanda et al.

Off to watch Captain Slow now.

Much love

PS Chrissie. We were lucky enough to meet Keane backstage earlier this year and Tom is a nice chap. Ever so tall, a bit like our very own CLP......

Update:

As you may know, we were shocked to find out in June that I was pregnant. Things were obviously not right, so I had to undergo a series of blood tests, examinations, scans, etc, all of which indicated a problem (miscarraige or ectopic) but weren't concise enough to warrant further invasive investigation.

So ... we went on holiday in the knowledge that we were to return to a scan, which, we believed, would finally shed some light on what was happening.

That scan was on Sunday. Good news is that the scan showed a fetus this time. Bad news is that it is half the size it should be and was too small for them to see a heartbeat.

So .... we have to wait another fortnight for the next scan. Deepus joyousness!

But ... we are fine ... I'm knackered ... but that's nothing new. I'm getting nausea, my sense of smell rivals a bloodhounds, I'm VERY hormonal ... and Charis keeps my mind off it all anyway!! Though it's a bit worrying that all her toys are having to go to hospital because they have sore tummies!!! Even the bath toys! And the horse she took to the swimming pool last week!

Did I say that I'd really missed you all??

Anonymous said...

What am I talking about? The scan was on Monday and I cannot begin to vocalise ....

Obviously time for beddy-bys!

Anonymous said...

Oh, Hazel .... you poor love! What a fright for you, honey.

Keith ... keyhole or not ... ouch!

Won't make either of you feel any better, but we had MAJOR car troubles going on holiday .... car ended up holidaying in a lovely, manky garage in Birnam (of the MacBeth oak), and we paid over £500 for the privilage!

Sending lots of prayers for healing of sore bits and sore hearts!

Anonymous said...

Susan,

How wonderful to hear from you! We have missed you so much. What a nightmare time you have had over the last couple of months. You have been in my thoughts and prayers (I try to jiggle my rosary beads every couple of weeks!). I sincerely hope your next scan will give you good news. If that wee soul is meant to be here, they will hang in there.

Take care, please try to look after yourself - it sounds as though you are really swamped at the moment.

You are not missing a lot on CE's blog, but I'm sure you will know he's getting married soon. He is in great form. It might help if you try to listen to him again, but I do understand there is nothing worse than the rest of the world sounding so damn happy, when you are finding things tough.

Thinking of you, love.

Hi guys,

Oh, it's really difficult getting back into the swing of things after a holiday! The first week we were off, I was up early every morning, listening to Mr Wogan and pottering around. However, the second week, I was getting really lazy and lying in bed too long. What a shock it has been these last two days to be up at 6.30 again! I am completely hyper and by the time I left the house this morning I had washed two loads of clothes, hoovered the bedroom AND brushed the floors! Somebody stop me!!

Matt, just want to say you are so right about the shock to the system. Also, there are no words to describe my envy that you have met Keane! And I have no doubt Tom is nice. He was very nice to me in my dream ........!

Welcome back Susan and Gaby...

It never rains but it pours. Have just got off the phone from another headhunter...job spec on its way through. Another well known corporate though!!! Unfortunately they appear to be the only ones with jobs that fit my skills and what I want to do, and are willing to pay me roughly what I was on before. If only I didn't have bills to pay then I could swan around living the life of a writer! Not that there is anything wrong with it. I get a real kick out of saying I'm a writer to people who ask what I do...it all started in Boston and I got used to it.

I have written a couple of non-fiction articles and I am considering making some approaches to magazines to try and get them sold in.

I also have had a business idea that I need to research a bit more.

Head starting to spin with too many ideas again...will need to rein myself in a bit and get real.

Anonymous said...

Jollygit - git well soon, honey! Horrid time of year for a cold!

Do you know my friend, Moose ... the writer?

Yup - that has a ring to it!!

Off for lunch!

Oh, meant to say ... all my talk of Naughty Corner to my Flickr pals led to them setting up a group for it! It's private, though, otherwise I'd post the link!

See what an inspiration you all are!?

Anonymous said...

Hi Moose,

You are just full to bursting with ideas and that is probably unsettling you just a little. I say - first and foremost - submit your non-fiction articles. You just never know what lies ahead, and it all starts with the first step.

I think you are totally real. You know you have bills to pay and commitments to meet, but this doesn't mean you can't follow your ambition.

Good luck on the job front - if you can get that sorted then you can (on the side) concentrate on what really matters to you. You ARE a writer and your future lies there.

In the meantime, the gas and electricity want paying!

Positive vibes and hugs to Mary - hope you are soon feeling better and back to full strength.

Keith - I know a blonde joke (I can, because I am blonde!)! Go on I'll share it with you!

A man was in his front yard mowing grass when his attractive blonde
female neighbour came out of the house and went straight to the
mailbox. She opened it then slammed it shut & stormed back in the house.

A little later she came out of her house again went to the mailbox and again, opened it, slammed it shut again. Angrily, back into the house she went.

As the man was getting ready to edge the lawn, here she came out again, marched to the mailbox, opened it and then slammed it closed harder than ever.

Puzzled by her actions the man asked her, "Is something wrong?" To which she replied, "There certainly is!"

(Are you ready? This is a beauty...)

Hazel - I did wonder where you were love, but thought you needed a bit of peace this week, so have left you to it. Hope you feel better as the day continues. Public transport is unspeakable. It is honestly taking years off my life!

Both our directors were heading for London this morning but because of the thunder and lightening at Heathrow, they are still sitting at Glasgow Airport. The bad news is, if they are delayed any longer they will not travel at all today and will be back in here within the hour! Damn and blast, I was relying on them not being here today so that I could do all the stuff I should have been doing all week! Hey Ho!

However, I have to say that for so many people this weather is just a complete nightmare. My heart goes out to everyone affected by it, all the flooding, etc - just really awful.

I am joining you Hazel (and hopefully someone else!) for a wee cup of tea and a Twix finger!

P.S. Jollygit - are you feeling better, pet lamb?

Anonymous said...

Sorry to hear a few of you are off colour - I hope you are soon better. I had a nasty bout of stuff in June and due to an adverse reaction to antibiotics now have a very inflamed achilles tendon which I have to get ultra sounded once a week. You are right Chrissie this weather is no fun, not good for the health or soul at all. The rain hasn't hit the NW yet but it is dark as night outside and that eery silence that precedes a storm is upon us! There was a massive rumble of thunder around 3.30am this morning which went on for an age so the weather is definitely thinking about it!

Speaking of which my 2 lads (5 and 6)are so funny. They have been trying to rationalise this awful weather and between them have decided that God and Jesus must be angry with them because they are, at times, naughty - hubby and I have tried our best to dissuade them from this thought process but they are having none of it. I hasten to add that this has not affected how they behave but just when it lashes it down with rain they speak about it!

Swarm of bees still present so am chasing the landlords up to see what action is being taken!

Dunked with Morrisons (other supermarkets available) BOGOF chocolate chip muffin!

Catch ya later!

Amanda - your boys' thinking reminds me of when I was little.
