A wing and a prayer...

Thanks for being my spies. I can't believe he played it!!! I didn't even think my post had got through as I thought the PC had hung.

Little secret though...I did cheat just a tiny little bit...not telling how.

Anna - that'd be Halzephron then...enjoy St Ives in the wind and rain!!!

Hoping that the big storm hasn't made it to London by 7 in the morning and I can get airborne and head east faster than it can...batten down the hatches everyone.

Hello everyone!

Seems I've missed loads... Welcome and congrats dancerjen and welcome and big hugs to gingembre & your daughter.

Newsflash!!! I proposed to my future hubby on the 29th of February before I went away skiing. Well I proposed that if we're both still single once I get out of this Bahamas project the I thought we should just get married... he said he thought it was a great idea!!!! I know it's not hearts flowers and string orchestra but it made me happy.

Lyndyloo: welcome back - hope you had a terrific time! Re: the proposal!!!! Won't that be a wonderful story to tell the grandchildren some day!! Ooohh, if you choose me for you Matron of Honour, blue is my colour!

The main topic of conversation with MsS last night was the absurdity of Westlife only getting into the charts at No.8! According to MsS, it's a fix and as for Duffy, she's rubbish!!! (I just didn't have the heart to tell her I have Duffy on my iPod and I think it's brilliant!

Have a good day everyone.

Thanks Chrissie I had a marvelous time on holibobs thanks... too much wine, not enough sleep, loads lof laughter and even a bit of skiing along the way!

Moose well done if you got on CLP on Friday, I obviously missed it as I was probably in the midst of a large apres ski session before my awards ceremony... which was a huge success! Awards were given for such things as "Most on the lash", "Most spectacular fall" and "Most random comment" personally my team presented me with a card and present for being "logistics director extrordinaire!"

Today I will be mainly trying to get my voice back... how quickly we get used to a smoke free enviroment.

Just checking in - how fantastic it is Wednesday already! Monday was torture, but since then it's been ok (for me!).

Mr S made Spaghetti Bolgenese last night. He used:

2 chopping boards
A large frying pan
2 pots with lids
A colander
A seive
A spatula
A slotted spoon
2 large spoons
2 knives
A pair of tongs
Large serving spoon

The kitchen was beyond description by the time I got round to washing the dishes. At this point Mr S was immersed in the newspaper, oblivious to the carnage next door.

Was I being unreasonable to be just slightly huffy?!

lyndyloo said...

Chrissie- Maybe a little huff? I mean, I know how much I hate my kitchen a mess but the idea of having a Mr LDL to make me food some nights is still sounding good.

Jollygit- Don't think you need to be running to Phillip Traecy just yet but will keep you informed.

Everyone else who's lurking....Especially Gingembre, I have spent this morning cleaning my Dad's bedroom, re-making his bed and putting some of his books and clothes into bags so that when Mum gets home later today she can decide what she wants to do with them. They say it's good to cry...well I must be feeling really good by now. In a way I do, I've at least made a start on a job that I know has to be done. I'm not sure how Mum will feel about it but I just hope she knows that it was only done with her in mind.

Now I must get on with some work before going to pick her up from the station later.

Lyndyloo: I know, you are right, it is nice if the one we love makes the dinner now and then. And yes, it can be romantic - until it's time to clean the kitchen!

Anyway .... you have all this to look forward to!!

You have been really brave in attending to your Dad's room. So, so difficult. I am sure your mum will be very grateful, because no doubt this is something she has been dreading. xx

Be back later.

Chrissie - I haven't stopped giggling since reading the list of stuff Mr S used to cook the dinner last night!!!

My mum always told me to have a bowl of soapy water on the go to 'wash up as you go'. This drives 'im indoors mad and I can't for the life of me figure out why, especially as it means he has less to wash up at the end of the meal - you'd think he'd be grateful wouldn't you!!!!! We still love them though, eh?!

Lyndyloo - I think you've been incredibly brave and strong to do what you've done as it can't have been easy and I'm sure your mum must have been dreading it xx

Chrissie S,
I think you may have good reason to be in a huff but let me put another perspective on the debris if I may;-
2 Chopping Boards – used to ensure no cross contamination of the raw ingredients in line with the basic food hygiene certificate thereby ensuring no food poisoning can occur to him or his beloved
A Large Frying Pan – Entirely appropriate when cooking Spaghetti Bolognese
2 Pots with lids – to ensure no nasty ingredients spill out onto the cooker thereby reducing the need for additional cleaning of the cooker through red hot spitting spillage
A Colander – safely drain the contents into the sink thereby ensuring no spillage on the floor or other surfaces, thereby reducing the need for additional cleaning
A sieve – no idea but presumably the same as for a colander above
A Spatula – For stirring the large frying pan thereby ensuring everything cooks correctly and evenly thereby ensuring no food poisoning can occur to him or his beloved.
A Slotted Spoon – As for a spatula presumably
2 Large Spoons – presumably for serving the spaghetti and the Bolognese separately
2 Knives – Used when preparing the fresh top quality ingredients and ensure no cross contamination of the raw ingredients in line with the basic food hygiene certificate thereby ensuring no food poisoning can occur to him or his beloved
A Pair of tongs – At a loss to explain this one! Handling onions without touching them, or nipple clamps
Large Serving spoon – To ensure that the cooked food reaches his beloved in tip-top, appropriately hot temperature to enable his beloved to enjoy the meal cooked with top quality ingredients, and love in his heart at the zenith of its scrumptiousness!

Washing up – That’s what the kitchen fairy takes care of while he is reading his newspaper, he doesn’t know how it happens it just does! It’s the same theory as putting the toilet seat down or putting more toilet rolls in the bathroom. It Magic! Isn’t it?

Phew - busy couple of days at work but it's all calming down now.

Chrissie - was that ALL he used? I'm impressed!!!! Mr L has a habit of using almost every utensil in the kitchen whilst cooking anything.

We have a magic cupboard in our kitchen that does the washing up. Unfortunately it's not self loading or unloading. We have a kitchen fairy for that ... as DD said, whilst the man of the house reads a newspaper, it just happens.

Lyndyloo - I'm sure your mum will be pleased with what you've done. It has to the worst job in the world and I'll bet she was dreading having to start.

Afternoon all,

Just an update for you all on little old me. I am a little sore after my op yesterday. I did not go into work today as it is a little uncomfortable to drive with the stitches in my back. I will be there tomorrow though as I have deadline to meet and people to see as they say. Chrisiie and Jollygit thanks for the hugs and thoughts there as ever very much appreciated. Only a couple of weeks to wait for the result…..

Lyndyloo how brave you are. I remember going through the same with my father’s cloths and stuff for my mum. There were three of the kids (All over 40!) doing it and it brought us all down to a gibbering wreck until someone cracked a joke and we all felt a little better some how.

On a brighter note I am pleased that you are happy with your pending marriage. Only one question when is the Bahamas project due to end? Don’t know how long you have to stay excited for hat all, congratulations! ;-)) And double congratulations of your skiing holiday and the card pressie. What a star!

Chrissie I am not the best in the kitchen myself. When MrsB says I am cooking all we have to decide is where and what we fancy. Normally the local pub, cheap and cheerful that’s me. ;-)

Moose well done on the CLP show mention. Sadly I missed it but thanks to listen again all is well. :-))

Gingembre. You and your daughter are in my thoughts right now. It is as hard as ever to say the right thing easier to think them. Nuff said….

I will be back as and when I can.

Take care

Jollygit: the bowl of soapy water is an idea I have tried to implement over the years. With MrS, all that ends up in that bowl is the wine glass from which he has been sipping a cheeky red while preparing the meal!

DD - you men all stick together!! Very amusing ..... and reading it all again, I can see it makes sense. Why, from your explanation I can see that MrS was really very kind in ensuring I did not have "additional" cleaning! Incidentally, apparently the tongs are used to pick up the spaghetti from the colander!

Analog - you're probably right, I got off lightly! Apart from the kitchen fairy in our house, we also appear to have a bathroom fairy, bedrooms fairy and a really lovely wee lass who loves ironing! Hey Ho, it's all good!

Keith,

Thank you so much for letting us know how you are. Certainly you must be feeling sore. I don't want to nag you, but MUST you go to work tomorrow? If so, please take it easy, ok - no heroics!

Keith - lovely to hear from you and I hope your back - and you - feel much better soon. I'm with Chrissie - if you really must go in to work tomorrow, please take it easy!

Well I've been taught from the beginning of marriage that cooking and clearing up are all part of the same job. Whover does any part of it does the lot.
Seeing as that always used to be me, not sure I agreed. But good hubbies do what they are told anyway (evil smile).

No longer though...not entirely true of course. Whoever cooks for me in my little flat also clears up...but I bought some dishwasher tabs today so all is well with the world again!

Off to the UK tomorrow. Am still in the office after a long old day, but I've got lots done. The one thing I haven't managed to do yet is listen again so I still haven't heard the opening of Friday's show. Must go and try now...

Anonymous said...

Keith, good to hear from you, have been sending positive vibes. Tho I am with everyone else who has mentioned it .... do you really have to go to work!? Will the world come to an end if you dont?! Committment is admirable but nothing and no-body is more important than yourself and your health. If you dont look after yourself properly, you cant do your job properly and surely that in the long term is a much worse prospect. Sorry to nag, its just cos we care. x

Lyndyloo - well done you, very hard and very thoughtfully done i think. Hope you and your mum can have some nice memories together as you decide what to do next with his things. x

Chrissie - i too would be a little huffy. If him in doors ever worked out how to cook me anything. Gawd bless 'im.

I am off on hols tomorrow so have a good week and if i dont catch you all before then, see you in a week or so.

Well, 17 years ago, at this very time, MsS was being born by Caeseran section. I was lying in the theatre, surrounded by what seem like dozens of nurses and surgeons. Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album was playing on a tape machine, and quite honestly the entire episode was utterly surreal! 17 years down the line, it's all still fairly surreal!

Happy 13th March, all!

C xx

P.S. Anna - enjoy your holiday!

jollygit said...

Anna - have a great holiday and hope the weather's kind to you x

Chrissie - happy birthday to MsS. I would imagine it was quite surreal with 'Thriller' playing in the background!!! I bet it seems just like yesterday doesn't it?

Moose - great to hear from you, as always. Let me know if you manage to 'listen again' as I keep getting a message saying it's not possible. Grrr ....

Morning all

Well it is early the weekend, where has this week gone?

Anna, Chrissie and Jollygit I understand you concern over me going into work but I mad as a fish to be honest (as you should all aware by now!). I am a workaholic I guess and as a boss always feel it is better to be in than out. I even went to the gym last night although I only walked/jogged on the machine for 40 minutes followed by a few sit ups. No weights though so I was good really.

Anna, have a great week on your holibobs! ;-)

Chrissie please pass on my belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY to MsS

Have a good weekend every one.

Just an after thought….. how long does it take to fix a pooter these days?

Anonymous said...

Jollygit & Keith: thank you for wishing MsS a happy birthday. I will pass the messages on! I do tell her a couple of wee things about the blog and she's very interested!

Our news today is that MsS has a part-time job - in a ladies clothes store - starts tomorrow morning! Is it too much to hope that this means she will now be able to pay for her make-up, clothes, gym membership, birthday gifts for 40 friends throughout the year - or are am I deluding myself?!

Keith - I know what you mean about being at work, and as long as it's ok for you, then that's fine. However, I am dubious about going to the gym! (that's me nagging again!).

I thought it has been such a long time since I posted a joke so you can have this one….

On a deserted island for over 10 years, saw a speck on the horizon. He thought to himself, 'It's certainly not a ship.' As the speck got closer and closer, he began to rule out even the possibilities of a small boat or a raft.

Suddenly there strode from the surf a figure clad in a black wet suit. Putting aside the scuba tanks and mask and zipping down the top of the wet suit stood a drop-dead gorgeous blonde!

She walked up to the stunned Irishman and said to him, 'Tell me, how long it has been since you've had a good cigar?'

'Ten years,' replied the amazed Irishman.

With that, she reached over and unzipped a waterproof pocket on the left sleeve of her wetsuit and pulled out a fresh package of cigars and a lighter.

He took a cigar, slowly lit it, and took a long drag. 'Faith and begorrah,' said the castaway, 'that is so good! I'd almost forgotten how great a smoke can be!'

'And how long has it been since you've had a drop of good Powers Irish Whiskey?' asked the blonde.

Trembling, the castaway replied, 'Ten years.'

Hearing that, the blonde reached over to her right sleeve, unzipped a pocket there and removed a flask and handed it to him.

He opened the flask and took a long drink. ''Tis nectar of
the gods!' shouted the Irishman. ''Tis truly fantastic!!!'

At this point the gorgeous blonde started to slowly unzip the long front of her wet suit, right down the middle. She looked at the trembling man and asked, 'and how long has it been since you played around?'

With tears in his eyes, the Irishman fell to his knees and sobbed, 'Jesus, Mary and Joseph! Don't tell me that you've got golf clubs in there too!'

Chrissie given my experience you are indeed deluding yourself my dear! I have two girls aged 16 and 18 and they both have part time jobs. They work on the idea of what is theirs remains theirs and what’s mine is theirs too. I keep telling them that one day they will have to look after me and I will get my own back. ;-)

As for nagging I get it at home in work and on the blog so I am used to it now :-)))

Keith it's good to hear you're ok! Your joke brought a smile to my face indeed :D

Just thought I'd post a quick update, 2nd day working today was just as good as 1st day last week - been offered more hours but decided not to take them up until after easter. Told my boss today also that I was pregnant and he was still excited about it 4 hours later! V funny :) it explained a lot about my recent behaviour at any rate :) Sickness is rotten, but I've discovered food is great to keep it at bay - just not too much food as that gives me indigestion so I need to remember to stop at the "full" mark! Hubby is back from Canada tomorrow hurrah - would be this week he was stolen from me to go on business eh.

All good in the end.
