D-Day Survival?

Another year. Another D-Day. Another one survived.

At least I think so. They called this Monday D-Day because it's the busiest day for all the divorce lawyers with Christmas and New Year stress straws finalling causing camels' backs to break. But then if your other half paid a visit to a divorce lawyer today, you wouldn't find out just yet, would you?

What an unsensitive thing! All these people about to get sprung with divorce papers, quietly and smugly satisfied that they survived another year because nothing happened today. And then wham! Or more likely thud! As the papers hit the mat in tomorrow's, or maybe Wednesday's, post...

Talk about lulling people into a false sense of security...

My real survival today was the decision NOT to go to the doctor with my bad back (done digging in the sand with the mooselets on Sennen beach, just in case any of you were raising any eyebrows in that cruel Roger Moore one-browed way that I can't do). The surgery is full of ill people, and especially at a time like this, you could catch something really nasty. So I've by-passed the quack completely and am going to see an osteopath tomorrow instead. As far as I know, joint and muscle pains aren't communicable...

And then I'm just glad not to be Jeremy Clarkson.

No, not like that. I actually quite like him. Annoying at times, yes, but sometimes he just seems to say what we're all thinking. And for that I salute him. Indeed, there I was, completely with him in the belief that someone having my bank account number and sort code (and nothing else) could only be a good thing as paying in would be the only thing that they could do.

Still, at least I don't have the column in the Sun (just yet...) in which I bared my mistaken belief to the world. As long as it's only 500 quid though, no harm done. He can afford it. And at least the cheeky perpetrator gave the money to charity! Now, if we can just find a diabetic computer hacker, we've narrowed the search down a bit.

One little social comment on the story though. How can it be right that 'Data Protection' offers greater protection to the perpetrator than 'criminal law protection' offers to the victim of such crime?
Answers on a postcard, impaled on a cocktail stick, please.

Let's hope Clarkson's missus wasn't so angry that she paid a visit to her lawyer today.

Divorce - Dont mention it to me. As i may have intimated in my last blog.... the outlaws of the brother and sister variety have finally admitted defeat and its been pretty rotten for all concerned. Lets hope it goes through with the least disruption to the kids possible!

And your mention of sennen beach - we invited my mother on holiday with us yesterday. Never have taken her before but go so often with the outloaws of the mother and father variety that we thought it was time to address the balance. She has never been to cornwall so has all the delights of st agnes, st michaels mount, st ives, sennen etc etc to come. I cant wait to show her, and take her to the best bistro in St Ives - St andrews street. Fabulous. Roll on March I say.

First day back in the office - surpisingly productive. As those of you on facebook know, Im ready!!!

Hiya Troops:

Re: Divorce after Christmas. Years ago, someone very close to me decided on Christmas Eve that another year with their partner would be impossible. They endured the entire two week break and when their partner left for work (away from home) saw a lawyer at the beginning of that January. I honestly had forgotten about this. I know it has been hard, and the scars are still there (faint, but there) but there's no doubt it was the right decision. To be fair, the divorce papers did not just arrive out of the blue. This person had tried very hard to let their partner see how bad things were, but to no avail.

MrS and I will be married 32 years next week. I am not remotely smug that we have another year "under the belt". We have found marriage a real challenge (good word) because we are both so independent and, at times, selfish. But, the love is still there and that's what keeps us going. If that love died, there is no way I could stick around, I'm really sure of that.

Heavy stuff for 8th January, eh?!

Evening!

Only my second day back and I am SHATTERED!!!! Not looking forward to the trip into the City tomorrow!

Now Moose, with regard to the Clarkson thing, I can confirm, as an employee of a large UK Bank, that panic struck into the hearts of us all when yesterday's story broke about Clarkson - the muppet!

Having spent time working in Fraud within the financial industry, I can confirm there is indeed a GREAT deal that someone could do with your bank account number and sort code. And let's not forget, these weren't the only details on those mysterious disks, dates of birth and addresses were also included. Take it from me shred everything!

The big "palaver" about this missing information relates not only to the fact that someone could become a victim of fraud, but also the fact that the government (deliberate lower case 'G') has legislated to extremes in relation to how customer data should be transferred. If this happened to any of the banks or building societies in the UK, they would be hammered with the largest fines imaginable. What's the governement going to do? Nothing, as usual. Smacks of hypocracy to me.

Many of my colleagues have spent the last few days completing risk assessments (again) and no doubt, there will be discussion at Industry level over the best way to manage this. (Again!)

Anyhoo - bit of positive stuff - have finally started my book! Yippee!!!!

Righty, off to write another chapter,

S xx.

Good Friday everypeeps!

It's very quiet on here isn't it? I think we should all make a concerted effort to make some comment or other and kick start our favourite blog site!

With regard to divorce... have no idea what it must be like as Mum & Dad were married for 50 "till death do us part" and my Brother has been married for 24 years now... of course me... never married, never been asked and when I do finally make the decision I trust that it will be for "ever".

Clarkson (bit of a hero) has a habit of sufferring with foot in mouth disease!

Sammie- Couldn't agree more with your assesment of the governments double standards of "data protection" to protect the public... farce!!!!

Anyway the bronchitis is getting better and Booboo has lost weight yippeee!

Analog,

Would you believe, I just this moment decided to have a look at Moose's blog and I thought - well, if no-one else has been in touch, I'm leaving a message!

WHERE IS EVERYONE?!

Missing you all!

Anyway: I, for one, am so relieved to see the end of this week. I am still not feeling great, still so tired! It's got to be said, I am feeling every one of my 51 years at the moment!

Take care everyone and come back soon!

Hello folks. Nice to see some of you are out there.

Don't think I'll be hanging around long today - I've got a nasty feeling that the Norovirus has reached the 8th floor. I've got a headache & backache & a horrible nauseous feeling ... will try not to spread it into cyberspace! I will of course take it home and share with Mr L as we share most things! He'll be delighted.

Analog - hope your symptoms don't add up to the Norovirus - apparently it's horrific! Take care, take it easy and hopefully you'll feel better soon.

Interestingly, I have also had a headache this morning, and feel a bit queasy. Could be another opportunity for some weight loss - I have regained the weight I lost over Christmas! Drat!

Oooh hope that nobody has got the nasty virus it's not a nice thing to have to deal with (even with the weight loss).

It's been the most miserable rainy day here in Atherstone and I've decided that I'm going to have a night in with Booboo in front of the fire. I've only got one more days worth of antibiotiics so I need to get better!!!

Have a great weekend everyone!

I'm celebrating my mate Mimi's 40th birthday tomorrow night so whoopppeeee!!!

Hi folks

Am currently sunning meself with 'im indoors in New Zealand, staying with my brother and his family. For all the insomniacs out there, hi!

The two of us are off for a mini tour of the North Island tomorrow in a campervan (avec shower and toilet) and I can't wait! We're visiting the Coromandel Peninsula, Tauranga, Gisborne, Napier, Hastings, Havelock North, Lake Taupo and Rotorua, before heading back to Devonport. Just the 6 days for us but it will at least be peaceful and we will be able to wake up in our own time, and not at the behest of a 2-year old screaming in our ears!!! Love them really.

Sorry so many of you have the lurgy - take heart that I now resemble the flag of Scotland: a few bright red triangles surrounded by lots of white lines ...... classy!

Anyhoo, might be able to report back when we return from our walk/drive-about but in the meantime, love to you all.

Jollygit - how lovely to hear from you! Hope you have a fabulous time!

Moose and Sammie (and any other budding writers out there) it might be of interest to you to "Listen Again" to Jonathan Ross's radio show last Saturday. His first guest was Lynda La Plante and she was so interesting with regard to her love of writing. She also had some really good tips for those who are considering writing for television. Just in general, she was fascinating. I think her interview started at around 10.40-10.45 and there was quite a long section with her just after the 11 o'clock news.

Thought I would just let you know - I would love to see your names on the telly some day!!

Hope everyone else is o.k. At the moment, life is quiet Chez S and that's just the way I like it! The three of us are just getting through January as best as possible. Poor January: no-one loves her/him!!

Hello Chaps and Chappesses!

I'm afraid the trip to the City last Wednesday was the straw that broke the camels back. You know you're going to be ill when every step on the Tube feels like the 24th mile of a marathon! Managed to bravely hold on until Friday, when I was reduced to teleconferencing from my bed, on mute, so as not to disturb everyone with my awful cough.

For some reason I felt much better on Saturday and did the usual Saturday jobs in record time, so that we would all be ready for my parents to pick us up to take us to Nottingham for the annual extended family trip to the Royal. (Fantastic theatre.)

Peter Pan was good - BUT I have to say, not a patch on Hook a few years ago, with Lesley Grantham as Hook and Joe Pasquale as Smee - absolute classic!

However, feeling tired and giddy afterwards, I opted to come home instead of attending my niece's party. The kids went with my parents and had a fab time.

Still feeling really bad this morning, I told my boss I was going to stay at home and then went to the docs, to be told I have flu and a chest infection and to go home and stay in bed. I did just that.

Right now, I am bored. Fed up of TV, fed up of reading, but not really up to doing anything else, if you know what I mean? Also, my kettle broke today, but I really can't be bothered to get a new one just now, so will have to boil water on the stove.

Lindyloo - hope the flooding hasn't reached you yet! You know, I'm really not that far from you - I live near Ashby...

Jollygit - NZ - how lovely - always fancied it myself. Living there that is!

HL - Lovey, sorry you're feeling low, virtual hugs to you {{{}}}.

Chrissie - thanks for the tip re: Jonathan Ross/Lynda La Plante - will make sure I listen.

To everyone else - I do hope you're all OK. January is a depressing month, what with little/no money, dreary weather and - oh, one step closer to February. After a singleton Christmas and New Year, the last things I need are the looming Valentines Day, followed a week later by my birthday.

Things do tend to feel worse when we're feeling physically low, don't you think?

Anyhoo, Madam is home now, so I can go back to bed, so I will.

Will try to visit again soon,

S xx.
