A nice cup of tea

My favourite suggestion for the 5 word motto for Britain...

But what is the world's most expensive cup of tea?

I know it wasn't the one I had today, but it was the most expensive one I've ever had.
Granted, the teapot was solid silver, it was proper leaves and a silver tea strainer instead of a Tesco own label bag which is my usual cuppa.

The location was quite nice - the Park Lane Hotel.
As was the company - a colleague from my coaching course.

£4.50. Ouch!

And just to set the record straight, my A to Z was simply a compilation from the stories in the Daily Mail starting at page 1 and going through until all the letters were complete - not me being gloomy. I didn't miss any stories out except for the tiny ones (not many) or the ones that weren't about Britain (not many either). But I guess it's no surprise that many people are gloomy when this is what they read in their papers every day.

Having said that, call me nostalgic but I do miss Germany for many things...Kaffee und Kuchen, Weizenbier, King Creole (local restaurant to where we lived), Gluhwein on the Christmas markets, our local bistro called Lemon where they knew us so well our drinks were brought to us without us needing to order, Applewine, even Sauerkraut...anyone would think I was obsessed with food and drink!!!

PS Big congratulations to Keith the Littl'un. Massive achievement. Big up to the ex Big Un.

Morning all,

£4.50 for a cup of tea, did you get to keep the tea pot!! Dread to think of what they would charge for a jug of tap water. ;-(( Swanky place to drink tea though I am more of a Little Chef person myself. ;-))

I also enjoyed much about my time in Germany and yes food was one of them. No speed limits on the Autobahns was another :-)

Thank you so much for the support you have thrown back at me for the weight loss. I would say that this last five months I have been totally dedicated to the cause. Mrs B keeps telling me that she is very proud of me. To prove my dedication I can honestly state that I have only had one, yes ONE pint of beer no chocolate, crisps, bread and no ice cream (one of my biggest indulgences) in the last five months. Now for anyone who knows me that is probably my biggest achievement. I still have a goal to lose another two and a half stone over the next six months or so. Still recovering from the gym yesterday but I will be back in there today and go swimming this evening. I do only weigh in weekly so it will be slow progress but worth it in the end. Thanks again!

Keep smiling

Bit of a theme here - but I also enjoyed my time in Germany (too many moons ago to admit to!)- the Christmas markets were just the best ever. I have promised myself a revisit in the future but lack of funds prevents it for this year (once again!).

In Manchester they have a continental Christmas market on this year - I am reliably informed that Gluhwein is flowing so I may just have to make a visit there sometime very soon!

Germany was also the very first place I had hot chocolate with lashings of whipped cream and marshmallows!!! It was also the first place I lived where we could drink in the pub all night (I loved Weissbier and Bitburger)!! Well I was quite young and impressionable! Also the nicest people I had ever met and worked with. If we had an hour I could tell you all about my amazing housewarming party over there that was the best night ever, but we don't so I shall leave it to your imagination!!!

So I have fond memories of my time in Germany (before it was merged again) and thank you for making me take a minute to think about it!

Have a fab day one and all, will call in again later on!

Keith - still 'wow-ing' over your massive achievement!

£4.50 is rather ridiculous!!!

Morning Moose! Morning all! I'm back for good!! But have so much to catch up on! What have I missed?!

Keith - well done honey!! You may find my hubby looking you up for tips - he is the most depressed I have ever seen him poor lad. Keep up the good work!

Amanda - haven't been to Germany though we have promised that next year we will visit the Christmas markets! Sounds like you have some wonderful memories!

How is everyone else?! You know I think about you all every day!

I know, it is decadance, but sometimes it's nice to have a posh cup of tea - we have a couple of really lovely tea rooms in Glasgow. Not that I visit them much because I'm too busy having a G&T in All Bar One!

Keith - you have obviously just made up your mind that the time for you is now - fantastic! All your willpower and exercise is paying off - come the summer people will be saying "you know Keith, .... yes you do .... the really slim guy ...."!

This weekend sees my trip to Barcelona. I really am looking forward to it, but I am so disorganised. So much work to do, can't be bothered doing anything and I haven't even made a list yet of what I'm taking with me. I'll have to get my act together!

Hope everyone is o.k. - lots of our lovely friends AWOL!

Keith - I am staggered by the weight loss - well done you!!! My mum weighs 7 stone, dripping wet, and I can't believe you lost an entire parent!!!!!

Crikey - £4.50 for a cuppa! I've never been to the Park Lane Hotel but I've had afternoon tea at The Ritz which was rather lovely. It was at least 15 years ago and it cost about £16 then ..... I think it's nearer £25-30 nowadays!!

I got taken to Claridges Hotel in London for drinks a couple of years ago too, and my companion was a smoker. Every time he extinguished a ciggie, the ashtray would be whisked away and a clean one appeared in its place. He chugged through a few cigs that afternoon, just trying to catch the poor waiter out - but he never did!!! At the same hotel, I popped to the loo and when I appeared from the cubicle a few minutes later, a lady in a very smart uniform guided me to a washbasin, where she informed me that it was mine to use. She ran a fresh basin of warm water every time someone used the loo!!! Now that's what I call posh ..... unless you know different, of course!

News of Hazel - she's still poorly and is trying to get over a virus. She's definitely not feeling the Mae West, as Tel would say, but is going to the doctor's today, so should have more news soon. She sends her love and thanks everyone who's asked after her xx

£4.50 sounds a bit steep to me, although a colleague has just returned from a long weekend in Monaco and paid £7 for a cuppa!

I was treated to dinner at the Savoy any years ago and very nice it was too. Haven't a clue how much it cost, but I bet it was more than my usual bag of chips.

Hi everyone!

Keith = Amazing!!! Well done you!!

Does anyone know anything much about cancer? I could do with some advice, my Dad was told by the consultant yesterday that he has now got secondary cancer in his liver. I'd just like to know what to expect from now on. He's been feeling really poorly and tired and I've read up about all the symptoms... and he has them all. I'm not sure what I'm looking for but if anyone thinks they can help thecylindrical1@hotmail.com would be appreciated.

Lyndyloo I am so sad to hear you news. I have had cancer as you know and at the moment I am winning. The organisation I used for information was Cancerbackup http://www.cancerbackup.org.uk/Home I found the help lines fantastic and so supportive for me and my family. Good luck honey! XX

Lyndyloo: I am so sorry to hear about your dad. The whole thing about Cancer is that there are different treatments and a different prognosis for each person.

My advice is to make an appointment with your GP (be stroppy with the receptionist and tell her you won't wait for an appointment in a fortnight!) and ask the doctor for more information. Of course, they won't know your dad but they will have some idea of what to expect.

I would say, and this is difficult, avoid the Internet - the information is too "broad".

I am thinking of your dad, your mum and of course you. You are having such a tough time of it recently.

Lots of love and positive thoughts.

Lyndyloo, my best wishes to you and your Pops! I can imagine the thoughts going through your and his mind, having only yesterday had my mans dangly bits scanned for lumps! 'Twould appear that the lumps on my lumps are only cysts but, we still had a fortnight of thoughts and concerns!

DD out

PS One Lump or Two! Only Two thank you very much!

Thank you again to everyone for your continued support it really does mean a whole lot to me. I'll look up the people you've reccommended and tomorrow I'm going to talk to the lung cancer nurse at the hospital to ask for her advice.

DD- It must have been a very worrying time. I know how difficult it is waiting for answers.
